1. INTERSTELLAR
Interstellar is a science fiction movie. It was released in 2014 and directed by Christopher NOLAN. This film follows the adventures of pilot Cooper, the main character. This one tries to save humanity by finding a new habitable planet, while the Earth must face a deadly drought. I chose it because I find the relationship between Cooper and his daughter Murphy poignant. Beyond Cooper's scientific mission, the film also centers on Cooper's relationship with his children. However, I find that Interstellar sometimes goes too far into science fiction and sometimes becomes difficult to understand.
2. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic novel written by Harper Lee. It was published in 1960. This novel follows the young Scout, an American girl living with her father and brother. The story takes place in the 1930s, in a poor village in Alabama. He speaks mainly of the discriminations made to black people at that time but also of the social differences according to the wealth of each one. I chose it because I like the whistleblower side of this book and it is interesting to see what life was at that time. It denonce all the racism against black people during the 30's and it enable to see the ideological advances of the society by comparing the society of the book to the current society.
3. THE HANDMAID'S TALE
The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopia book written by Margaret Atwood and published in 1985. It has also been adapted into a series. This book centers on June Osborne, a servant living in the United States after religious fanatics took over the country. June recounts how her life has been since she became a servant in order to increase the birth rate. I chose it because it tackles a lot of themes around feminism. This shows how uncertain the place of women is and how a totalitarian regime can completely change our way of life. I also loved how June organizes resistance and helps people escape.
