The Montgomery Bus Boycotts started after Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus. She was sitting in the whites-only section, and then the cops got called on her. After her arrest, almost everyone in the area started a boycott on public transportation that lasted for over a year. MLK Jr. gained great amounts of reputation for this, which is what started off his Civil Rights journey.

The Greensboro Sit-ins were a series of peaceful protests that started at a Greensboro store, and eventually reached out around the country. The store refused to allow the black customers to sit down at the counter to dine. They allowed them to shop, but they valued the happiness of the white people in town over the happiness of the black people. Because of this, blacks sat down at the counter and refused to leave until the store closed. At times it got violent, but eventually they were allowed to dine.
