about daisies

things you didn't know

10

The word 'daisy' comes from the Old English dæges-eage, meaning 'day's eye', as its petals close at night and open at sunrise

Its name in Spanish is 'margarita', which means pearl, precious stone, or Egyptian plant

Each one is made up of many flowers, as its petals and its centre have different blooms

Although it doesn't produce seeds, the daisy is a cousin of the sunflower and they grow in very similar habitats

Daisies make up 10% of all the flowers that exist on our planet

Did you think they were white? Not always! There are daisies of lots of different colors.

They are very resilient flowers, which allows them to live almost anywhere

Easern beliefs link the freshness of the daisy after being cut to happiness and bliss at a wedding

The romantic game played with the petals of the daisy comes from France
