Metropolitan Planning Organization
A Metropolitan Planning Organization is an agency created by federal law to provide local elected officials input into the planning and implementation of federal transportation funds to metropolitan areas with populations of greater than 50,000. • Lucas and Wood counties, and Bedford, Erie, and Whiteford townships of Monroe County
Council of Governments
A Regional Council is an organization of political subdivisions that seeks to provide cooperative planning, coordination, and technical assistance on shared issues and challenges.· Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood counties (as well as certain municipalities, townships, and special districts within these counties); all municipalities in Fulton County; and Monroe County, Michigan, and several jurisdictions within the county. · COGs should complement and not duplicate jurisdictional activities.
• Areawide agencies identify water pollution problems and recommend how best to address them. These agencies work with local governments to determine the areas where each will provide sewer service.
Areawide Water Quality Planning Agency
An Areawide Water Quality Planning Agency is designated by the State to perform the areawide water quality management planning under Section 208 of the Clean Water Act.•Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, and Sandusky counties, and Bedford, Erie, and Whiteford townships of Monroe County
