Minerals and elements play hand and hand. Elements are often stacked together with other elements to form minerals.
The way minerals form and the importance of them!
A dive into how Earth forms minerals.
wow
go!
Summary
Minerals can form from valcanic gases, sediment formation, oxidation, crystalization from magma, or deposition from a saline fluid. Minerals are generally formed through crystalization. Minerals must be (1. naturally occuring 2. Generally organic. 3. A Solid substance.4. orderly crystalline structure.) Pg. 32 in the textbook.
Minerals and elements play hand and hand. Elements are often stacked together with other elements to form minerals.
Minerals cannot form without an element present.
Relevant data
+4,400
There are approximately 4.400 known minerals.
+4.4 bilion years
The oldest material on Earth which has yet to be dated is a zircon mineral, if nearly 4.4 billion years old. As cited December 29, 20225:00 AM ET Nell Greenfieldboyce 2010

Atoms
Atoms play a very special part in mineral formation."Some atoms bond to form ionic compounds, some form molecules, and still others form metallic substances" electric forces hold atoms together and bond them together. Electrical attractions lower energy of the bonded atom which generally makes them more stable. ( pg. 36 of the text book)
Fun fact !
5-6%
Did you know around 5-6 % of our bodies are made up of minerals?
3 Ways minerals are formed.
Precipitation directly from an aqeous (water) solution with a temperature change.
Crystilization from a magma with a temperature change.
Biological precipitation by the action of organisms.
How does this relate?
This information is credible to what we are reading in this chapter because we are learning about minerals and the formation of them. We are also learning how elements have an effect on other minerals!
Minerals are so important!
Minerals are so important! From the suppliments you take in the morning even to the drill the dentist use on your teeth. Minerals are very important resources.
