CriticalThinking

What is critical thinking? Critical thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information, arguements, and situations. This is done in a systematic and logical manner.

What is creativity? Creativity is the ability to generate original and valuable ideas, solutions, or expressions by combining knowledge (and experiences) in imaginative ways.

How do you think you can ensure that creativity leads to high-quality learning or products? By creating a classroom environment that supports and encourages creativity. In my classroom, I provide the resources, embrace risk-tiaking, and try to foster a culture that allows my students to come up with innovative ideas. When I present a project, I allow for my student's to contribute their unique inisghrs and expertise. For instance, I do a fermented food fair. Some students choose to research and present food that is apart of their culture. In october, we do scientist ofrendas. Students can pick a scientist or familiy member that was in the medical or engineering field. By allowing them to pick topics that they are interested in and then giving them time to explore and research allows for phenomenal products. Then I always encourage reflaction and we look at strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

How can you think you can ensure high-quality critical thinking? I encourage lots of questions and inquiry guided activties. I try and foster curosity. Students have to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and seek evidence. I think it is importnat to expose my students to deversce perspectives and ideas; which requires them to consider multiple viewpoints. In AP Biology, it is importnat to empahsize evidence-based reasoning. I teach my students to idnetify and evaluate evidence (data) and to make decisions based on the information they are given.
