Intellectual Montage

My name is Jenna. I have chosen to explore The Kuleshov Effect and Intellectual Montage because in the future, I would like to specialise in post production, in particular, editing. For this project, I have made a video. To include my specialist theory, I put together a bunch of clips that conect to each other in an intellectual way.

Other Film Theories I Have Explored

Soviet Montage Theory: The Soviet Montage Theory is an editing style where the shots are cut together to create a sequence of action or emotion, often with one major idea on display. Soviet montage films are a genre of film that make use of various techniques to create an emotional response. Soviet Montage came from the concept that film theory doesn't necessarily have to align with theatrical frameworks, as the filmmaking process provides an entirely new set of tools.

Feminist Theory:Feminist film theory is the function and placement of female characters in films, as well as their narratives in films and videos. It focuses on how women are represented in films, along with their function and placements. Some key elements of the feminist film theory include: - The female spectator - The male gaze - Representation of women in film - Sexist ideologies

During this project, I have learnt that intellectual montage is when you edit two shots together to connect them to an intellectual concept.I have also learnt that The Kuleshov Effect is a film editing effect invented by Soviet filmmaker, Lev Kuleshov. It is a mental phenomenon where the audience derives more meaning from the interaction of two back-to-back shots than from one shot in isolation. In the 1910s, movies were emerging as an art form.
