Luther’s once said, “A Christian lives not in himself, but in Christ and his neighbor. Otherwise he is not a Christian.” [Q] Most likely Luther did not start his ministry with this viewpoint. What was his struggle?

There is so much suffering in the world that we sometimes become immune to it. We walk by the homeless, look past the stare of a hurting child, skim through the article on yet another tragedy… We must relearn the compassion Jesus felt for our broken and hurting world. Splanchnon is the Greek word for such compassion. It means “inner parts”.
