Durham Castle

Since 1840, the castle has been occupied by Durham University.

Served as a residence for the Bishops.

An excellent example of the early castles known as “motte-and-baley”.

It was built between the late 11th and early 12th century.

Is located in the city of Durham, in England.

In 1986, UNESCO classified Durham Castle as a World Heritage Site

Integrated into the site called Durham Cathedral and Castle.

This heritage represents the conflicts of the last five hundred years of British history.

There are over than 250 paintings in the collection of Durham Castle.

Thank you!
