Zeus Statue at Olympia
The statue of Zeus at Olympia is a statue built in 456 BC by a Greek sculptor called Phidias. The materials that were used are ivory, ceramics, glass paste and obsidian, awls, vanes, hammers, lead sheets. Phidias' task was to create a statue to embellish the Greek heritage, as shortly before, the Parthenon had already been augured.
Nowadays
Unfortunately nowadays, the statue do not exist anymore. That's because of the time that has probably consumed the statue. But it used to stay in Grece, precisely in the shrine of OlympiaHowever Zeus' statue is still remember because of its beauty and its details. Infact the artist who made it was an excellent sculptor and with his abilities, he's made one of the most wonderfull and unique statues in the world history.
Some curiosity....
- Historians has found out the existence of this statue by manuscripts and drawings of Ancient Greeks.
- The statue has been moved to Costantinopoli, but a fire destroyed the palace in which the statue was in. Anybody has ever found any rests of the wonder.
