Story

Legend says that a faraway kingdom forged a sword that together with the power of the Elemental Gems (fire, water, air, and earth) could defeat any evil. Gather the gems to assemble the ultimate weapon and defeat the dragon hiding in the dungeon.

Start game

Thank goodness you’ve come! We need your help! You need to find the 4 Elemental Gems so that the sword has enough power to defeat the fearsome dragon that is terrorizing our people…You will need a calculator, desmos.com, and something to keep track of what you are answering for each question. This will help you when you complete your DBA after slaying the dragon!

Help us, only a person like you can do it!

No thank you, I’ll pass

Of course!

Ouch! I thought you were cool ... What will become of us!

Hehehe, I was kidding. Ahem, of course I’ll help you

I knew you would not fail me! Thanks a lot! Here is the holy sword. Now gather the Elemental Gems to complete it and defeat the dragon.

LEVEL 1 - EARTH GEM

EARTH GEM

Watch out, a wandering skeleton is in your way! Get the earth gem by passing a quiz about Module 4 terms!

Start level

Where do you think you’re going, mortal?! You won’t be worthy of the Earth Gem until you get all my questions correct. Do you dare to try?

Which example below is a correct system of equations?

4n + 10m = -30 18n - 13m = -50

2x + 6y = -15 5a - 7b = 21

What is a solution to a system of equations?

The ordered pair where the lines intersect

All ordered pairs that are on the lines

What is true about the slopes in a system that has no solution?

They are different

They are the same

Which example below would give you infinitely many solutions?

2x + 4y = -5 x + 2y = -2.5

x + 3y = -6 x - 3y = 6

What would be considered the solutions to a system of inequalities?

Anywhere on the graph that shading occurs

Where the two shadings overlap

Congratulations!! Here is your reward, you have earned it

Hahahaha, what do you say? ...

Oh, I've lost my mind, give me another chance!

Which system of equations is correct for this scenario: The high school theater club had charged $12 for each adult ticket and $8 for each student ticket. On opening night, they made $1,156 and sold 123 tickets.

a + s = 123 12a + 8s = 1,156

a + s = 1,156 12a + 8s = 123

Adult tickets sold: 43 Student tickets sold: 80

Adult tickets sold: 80Student tickets sold: 43

Solve this system of equations: a + s = 123 12a + 8s = 1,156

43 + 80 = 123 123 = 123 12(43) + 8(80) = 1156 1156 = 1156

80 + 43 = 123 123 = 123 12(80) + 8(43) = 1156 1304 = 1156

Which choice demonstrates a correct way to prove that a solution is correct?

You got the Air Gem!

It is opening night for the high school theatre club's musical, "Math is Everywhere," and they hope to raise $2500 or more in ticket sales. The tickets cost $10 for students and $15 for adults, and the auditorium can seat no more than 250 people. Find the correct system of inequalities.

a + s < 25015a + 10s > 2500

a + s < 25015a + 10s > 2500

a + s > 25015a + 10s < 2500

Explain what the line and shading direction would be for each inequality in this system: a + s < 250 15a + 10s > 2500

Both lines would be dotted; top would shade below and bottom would shade above

Both lines would be solid; top would shade below and bottom would shade above

Both lines would be solid; top would shade above and bottom would shade below

Find an ordered pair that would be viable to the scenario. a + s < 250 15a + 10s > 2500

The 9th graders are holding a dance. They would like to make at least a $500 profit. They estimate that at most 250 students will attend. It costs $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Would a system of equations or inequalities be used to model the scenario?

system of inequalities; they need at least $500

system of inequalities; they need exactly $500

system of equations; they need exactly $500

The 9th graders are holding a dance. They would like to make at least a $500 profit. They estimate that at most 250 students will attend. It costs $5 in advance and $8 at the door. What would the system look like?

x + y < 250 5x + 8y > 500

x + y > 250 5x + 8y < 500

x + y < 250 5x + 8y > 500

Is (140, -20) a viable solution to the system about the 9th grade dance? x + y < 250 5x + 8y > 500

Yes; it falls in the overlapping shades

No; it does not fall in the overlapping shades

No; it falls in the shading but a ticket can not be negative

You got the Fire Gem!
