DID YOU KNOW THAT THE MEDICAL ABORTION METHOD USES MEDICATION PRESCRIBED BY AN AUTHORISED DOCTOR GIVEN IN DOSES OVER 2 OR MORE DAYS TO END A PREGNANCY?

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ABORTION?

AS OF 2018, THE FEDERATION OF REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ASSOCIATIONS MALAYSIA (FRHAM) HAS ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE ABOUT 90,000 ABORTIONS PERFORMED ANUALLY IN MALAYSIA.

statistics:

AN ABORTION IS A PROCEDURE TO END A PREGNANCY OTHERWISE KNOWN AS 'TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY'. THE PREGNANCY IS ENDED EITHER BY TAKING MEDICINES OR HAVING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE.

DEFINITION:

WHAT CAUSES ABORTION ?
1. INFERTILITY & COMPLICATION IN FUTURE CHILDBEARING: Complications that can arise from induced abortion, such as infection and damage to the uterus, can lead to infertility and increased risks of future childbearing. In the case of medical abortion, the risks for these complications are increased in women who have a high risk of uterine rupture.
COMPLICATIONS OR EFFECTS OF AN ABORTION
2). DISRUPTION OF THE MOTHER'S MENTAL HEALTH “Women who had undergone an abortion experienced an increased risk of mental health problems, and nearly 10% of the incidence of mental health problems was shown to be attributable to abortion.” Some women who have experienced an abortion report symptoms similar to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Some of those symptoms may include: -Regret -Grief -Sadness/Depression -Anxiety -Guilt/Shame -Suicidal thoughts
3). FUTURE PRE-TERM DELIVERIES Abortion causes a weakening of the cervix, which increases a woman’s risk of future pre-term deliveries. Two recently-published studies indicate that one induced abortion increases the risk of a subsequent preterm birth by between 25% and 27%. After two or more abortions a woman’s risk of preterm birth increases by between 51% and 62%.

Some women experience sexual dysfunction after an abortion. The following issues can often be associated with early pregnancy termination: a) Increased vaginal dryness b) Decreased sexual desire c) Loss of orgasm ability d) Dyspareunia (difficult or painful sexual intercourse)

4). SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION:
ALTERNATIVES TO AN ABORTION 1). HAVE THE BABY: An unplanned or unexpected pregnancy can be overwhelming a majority of the time especially for first time mothers. However, soon-to-be mothers should realize their potential and discover that they have what it takes to have a blooming motherhood.

Like adoption, guardianship involves placing the child with another person or family and allowing them to raise the child. By choosing a guardian instead of an adoptive family, you keep some of your parental rights. This option might be a good choice for you if you can’t raise a child right now but see your circumstances changing in a few years, or if you know you want to stay closely involved in your child’s life. Guardianship may involve monthly child support payments, so it’s important to consider your financial situation as well.

2). LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP:

Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting of another, usually a child, from that person's biological or legal parent or parents. Legal adoptions permanently transfer all rights and responsibilities, along with filiation, from the biological parents to the adoptive parents. The types of adoptions include: a. Open Adoption b. Closed Adoption c. Semi - Open Adoption

3). ADOPTION:
4). PRACTICE BIRTH CONTROL: Some of the well-known birth control methods are: a. Barriers b. Hormonal Methods c. Intrauterine Devices & Implants d. Other conventional methods
3. IUDs & IMPLANTS 4. OTHER METHODS: a. Family Planning 2. Pulling out 3. Emergency contraceptive pills 4. Sterilization 5. Ovulation 6. Constant updates with your OBGYN or via a pregnancy test

Abortion in Malaysia is currently regulated under Sections 312–316 of the Penal Code: Section 312 states that those who induce an abortion with a woman's consent can be imprisoned for a term of three years or fined or both.

1. How do you perceive abortion after our presentation here today? 2. As a future parent, what will be your choice of preemptive measures to prevent an abortion? 3. What would you suggest to ensure safe and accessible abortion for women under a given circumstance?
