What is Title IX?
Title IX is an act that provides the fact that no person in the United States, on the basis of gender, shall be banned from the participation in, denied benefits of, or be discrimminated from any education program or any program that is recieving Federal financial assistance.
Title IX was enacted by Congress in 1972.
Representative Patsy Mink is recognized as the major author of the bill.
In May of 1975, President Gerald Ford signs the final version of Title IX and submits it for Congress to review.
Title IX protects against sexual harrassment and sexual violence to all students, including athletes, which would soon be revoked in 2017.
In early 2021, President Joe Biden created a new executive order that adds onto Title IX.
This change states that any person, no matter what sexual orientation, gender, etc. shall be seen as an unequal person.
Title IX celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 23rd, 2022.
