RECYCLING PAPER

Why is it important?

The invention of paper occurred around 200 B.C. in China and marked a major transformation in the way people transmitted wisdom from one generation to another.Since then, it has encouraged the preservation of texts. Can you imagine its impact?

Info

Initially their use was reduced. However, what Ts’ai Lun, to whom the invention is attributed, never thought, was that over the centuries it would become one of the elements of everyday life throughout the world.

So widespread is its use, that we are now talking about strategies for its good use and reuse, because it must not be forgotten that its production depends mainly on the wood obtained from trees.

FACTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING PAPER

1 Jungles are disappearing

Every year between 74,000 and 93,000 km2 of forests disappear in the world, a size similar to that of a country like Portugal.

If we narrow down the period, the figures are even more striking: the trees felled every minute occupy a terrain comparable to that of 36 football fields.

2 The role of trees

Trees play a decisive role in the earth's balance.

They reduce the levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) circulating in the air, which is, let us remember, the most harmful greenhouse gas.

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR RECYCLINGPAPER

Like cardboard, paper represents 18% of the waste we generate every day.

Info

In Spain, about 40% of the articles made from these two materials end up in the landfill, a figure much higher than that recorded by other European countries.

For every ton of recycled paper, an average of 18 trees are saved in the world.

What can we do to reduce paper consumption?

Reuse sheets for your studies or work

Buy recycled paper

Make your own recycled paper
