Why do you need to experience it?

Halloween!

• Halloween was brought to America by Irish immigrants in the 19th century.

• This brought about the renaming of the holiday to All Hollows Eve or Halloween.

• In the 9th century, Pope Gregory named November 1st, All Saints' Day in an attempt to change the festival into a Christian holiday.

• The first attempt to Christianize the festival was during the 5th century by Pope Boniface.

• During the Middle Ages, the tradition of carving turnips appeared and they were called Jack-o-lanterns. Pumpkins were introduced later with Irish tradition.

• First celebrated roughly 2000 years ago by Celtic Tribes and was called Samhain.

Halloween is one of the oldest celebrated holidays!

Trick or treat

In modern Halloween tradition, children run through their neighborhoods, knocking on doors and chanting, "TRICK OR TREAT!!" This chant was adopted from the tradition where if a treat was not given, the children would then play a trick or prank on the unsuspecting home.
