The 1980s: The first wave of emo music originated in Washington, D.C., in the mid-1980s during the Revolution Summer movement, where musicians tried to break away from the usual sound of the post-hardcore punk band scenes.

The emo influence

Emo is not yet a genre of its own, but rather an influential movement in punk music, which adds a raw, emotional aspect to songs.

2000

Self proclaimed emo bands revive the emo genre, but bring about great changes to it while doing so. The genre loses its visceral qualities for a more poetic, complex and emotional approach.

2004

the American emo band Panic! At The Disco was formed in 2004 and is still active to this day. It is recognised as one of the best emo bands of recent times and has achieved mainstream popularity.
