Topography
- The arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area. - A detailed description or representation on a map of the natural and artificial features of an area.
Vocabulary - Topographic Maps
Topographic maps - show changes in elevation of Earth's surface Contour Lines - a line on a topographic map that connects points of equal elevation Contour interval - the difference in elevation from one contour line to the next Slope - Any land whose surface gradually rises in a general direction. Satellite view - view of geological formations from a satellite orbiting the Earth. Elevation - indicates the height to which something is relative to sea level. Erosion - the process of moving material by way of wind, water or gravity. Weathering - the chemical and physical processes that break down rock and other substances. Deposition - sediment that is dropped or deposited after being eroded. Deposition is how river deltas are formed. Contour Index - heavy bolded contour line which is usually every 5th line on a topographic map. Relief - Changes in elevation over a given area of land Landform - A feature of topography formed by the processes that shape Earth's surface.
