where's all you're reading from

It's a snack made of dried cured and spiced meat. There are different types of it, but the most famous are beef biltong and venison biltong .

Biltong

Traditional food

Boerewors
Bokkom

It's a type of sausage made from beef mince. It contains spices such as coriander, cloves and nutmeg.

From the west coast , it's dried in the sun and wind, the whole, small, mullet fish, are then salted. It can be eaten as a snack,in pastas, soups and more.

Fruit & Vegetables

It is the African variant of the tangerine, i.e. the mandarin orange (a cross between the mandarin and the orange). Compared to the traditional orange, the machenza has a more greenish color and a citrus scent, if possible even more marked, while the pulp tends to be firmer and sweeter.

Also called African bread tree, treculia is an evergreen plant that is widespread throughout Africa. It produces large fruits, comparable to those of a watermelon. The pulp is hard and very rich in fibre. For this reason, more than a fruit, treculia is considered a tuber and consumed as a main dish, as an alternative to rice or potatoes. The seeds, on the other hand, are ground to produce oil and flour.

Meat & Fish

The galjoen is found only along the South Africa coast. It keeps to mostly shallow water, is often found in rough surf and sometimes right next. The galjoen is almost completely black, while is sandy.Sardines, anchovies, horse ,mackerel and axillary.Tilapia is a traditional and favourite fish in almost all countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. Some even call it a “democratic fish” in the sense that the fish is consumed as an affordable source of protein in poor rural communities, to being a premium product for the affluent in urban centres.

Let’s start with the types of meat from South Africa. A typical braai in South Africa consists of a variety of meat like beef, pork, lamb, chicken, seafood, boerewors (sausage) and sosatie barbecued on a grill. Root crops, bread, and game meats like warthog kudu, and springbok are often barbecued as well. There isn’t a favourite South African meat as such, but the country is a large supplier of meat. From karoo-lamb to steak, ostrich and game. It’s also known for meaty delicacies such as biltong.

Dairy Products

Milk, yogurt, flavoured milks, cheese, milk powder, other concentrated products etc. South Africa are the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kwa Zulu Natal. The different types of milk available on the South African market are full-cream, medium-fat, low-fat and fat free milk. Amasi (in Ndebele, Zulu and Xhosa), maas (in Afrikaans), or mafi (in Sesotho), is a fermented milk product that is similar to cottage cheese or plain yogurt. It is a popular snack in South Africa and Lesotho. There are now hundreds of specialty cheeses, from the milk of cows, goats, sheep, and buffalo, made across the Rainbow Nation, with production clustered along the country's green coastal fringe. The Western Cape is home to the world-renowned Winelands, where more than half of South Africa's cheese is produced.

Melktert

One of the most famous South African desserts, it's usually served with a touch of cinnamon on the top. There even is a festivity for this dessert, the National Milk Tart Day.

other sweets

Koeksisters

It's a braided dough with a coconut flavor that is dipped in honey or sweet syrup. It has its origin in indonesia and is also one of the most interesting desserts in appearance.

Malva pudding

It's a dutch import. It has a texture of caramel and the cake of the dish is very soft and moist. The structure of the cake comes from lots of butter and syrup used to make it.
