children read for fun on their own nearly every day, but something changed. According to the 2020 National Assessment of Educational Progress, the percentages of 9 and 13-year-olds who said they do this dropped to their lowest points since the question was first asked in 1984.

Let's build a culture of reading by harnessing the motivational powers of friendly competition.

- Provide reading time during the school day.
- Record the number of minutes read in class per week.
- Submit total minutes in a Google form I will send out each week.
- Keep a stack of independent reading logs in your classroom for students who are interested.
How You Can Help

Weekly incentives will be provided for participation. Individual student reading logs are optional and will be collected during library class. These students will earn a bonus incentive.PreK and K will participate at the class level. No reading logs. High class and individual achievers will be recognized and rewarded at the end. There is a whole school goal to read 70,000 minutes. Adults are encouraged to submit their minutes. Progress will be represented in the library.
