The library provides an oasis for students to stimulate interaction, collaboration and intellectual practices, and provide a reading cove for them to gain knowledge. To prepare them for the future, a collection of books has been curated with an emphasis on world leaders, leadership and STEM.
As the library of the future, it is populated with both age-appropriate hardcopy books and an digital interactive kiosk where students can preview e-books, read synopses and scan a QR code to borrow e-books from NLB's comprehensive selection of e-books. It is zoned into 3 zones: the collaboration zone, the discussion zone and the quiet zone.
Learning Oasis

The collaboration zone allows for casual collaboration and doubles up as a performance area where lunchtime performances, talks and trainings can be held. In the discussion zone, two smaller rooms can be found complete with collaborative and interactive digital whiteboards for more formal discussions and consultations to take place. Before stepping into the quiet zone, visitors will spot a hydroponics tower which blooms with life and is a respite for weary eyes. The quiet zone has movable tables with LED lights to provide a conducive environment for self-study. These tables can be rearranged when needed to facilitate various learning experiences.

The Nook is an integrated facility which allows for synergistic student development and guidance. It comprises a counselling room, LBS intervention room and workspaces for the School Counsellor, AED (LBS) and SHA / ECG Counsellor. The design concept of The Nook is to create a cozy and inviting space which students can call a 'second home'. Books that promote well-being are available on the shelves, and board games are available for students to play. The Nook provides an inclusive and inviting space for students to socialise. The School Life Coach (School Counsellor) uses The Nook to connect and build a supporting network for students to enhance their well-being. Most of the furniture in the rooms are movable and can be reconfigured to support different peer support programmes. #schoolasaconnectedcommunity #schoolasasecondhome

YI ECO SpACES
The YI Green Corridor on Level 3 brings together a myriad of learning spaces for students to embrace STEM and Sustainability Education - comprising the STEM Hub, Agrisphere Lab & Garden, Darwin & Mendeleev Labs, Level 3 FAVE area and the Vegepods that are part of the school's urban farming initiative. Each lower secondary class and STEM Club CCA members have a collective stake in the growing of edibles in the raised garden beds (also called Vegepods). Students learn urban farming methods and cultivate our InSPIRE school values by taking charge of their plots. Students also get to share their harvest with the needy in our community. The vegepods are mobile and can be conveniently moved along the Green Corridor to capture adequate sunlight needed for healthy plant growth. Science Labs
Our labs are named after scientists which our students will learn about in their Science lessons. All labs are well-equipped to provide conducive learning spaces for students to learn and appreciate Science, with work benches that have sufficient leg room on both ends to facilitate group discussions. Additionally, the work benches in the Biology and Physics Labs are mobile, allowing teachers to easily configure the science lab to practice innovative pedagogies. For example, teachers can now design laboratory experiments with station rotations that allow for seamless movement of students between stations. This unique lab layout provides our students the physical space to think better with Inquisitiveness and Ideation as they engage in science learning. #schoolasasecondhome #schoolasalivinglab #schoolasaconnectedcommunity

Agrisphere Lab
Supporting the school's efforts to nurture the next generation as stewards of the environment, this lab features innovative, energy-saving, multi-cropping indoor vertical systems where students carry out explorative studies. This learning space engages the senses in the choice of crops planted (e.g. culinary herbs/ flowers, medicinal plants and protein plants) that are climate-resilient and have high-research value. #schoolasasecondhome #schoolasalivinglab
Agrisphere Garden
The Agrisphere Garden has a wartime heritage theme, and aims to provide immersive learning opportunities focused on food security, sustainability and conservation. The plants and flowers grown here provide sensory engagement and are edible. #schoolasasecondhome #schoolinagarden #schoolasalivinglab
FAVE spaces are also customisable. For example, the FAVE area along the Level 3 Green Corridor is home to the Experiment Excites booth, which allows for students to pique their curiosity on experiments and real life applications of concepts being taught in Science lessons. #schoolasasecondhome #schoolasaconnectedcommunity #schoolasalivinglab
All spaces can be optimised for learning and networking. FAVE (Flexible, Adaptable, Versatile) areas are spaces which can be used to support student learning and interests, while serving as a buffer for future school expansion opportunities. The numerous FAVE areas are well-equipped with furniture which facilitate collaborative learning, consultations and individual study both during and outside of school hours.
FAVE Areas
The Auditorium is a multi-use space where level assemblies and concerts can be held. Its high ceiling and unique wooden beams add to the spirit of possibilities of the place. Its open and safe space enables students to demonstrate the physical skills, practices and values to enjoy Physical Educations lessons both individually and with others. The 3 badminton courts allow the flexibility of using the floor markings to demarcate boundaries for physical activities beyond badminton games. The space also facilitates teaching of games for understanding spatial awareness while establishing safety routines during play. #schoolasalivinglab #schoolasaconnectedcommunity #schoolasasecondhome

Mobile trolleys or shelves are used to store materials, food samples, kitchen tools and equipment for quick deployment to various groups. Height-adjustable tables are used to facilitate demonstrations of food science experiments. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and mobile work stations, the Food Labs are designed to level up the learning experience of students. The teacher gets to design collaborative activities that allow students to come together to plan and prepare food items, which would otherwise not be possible in a typical food kitchen. #schoolasalivinglab #schoolasasecondhome
The Food Research Hub is designed to create an active, interactive, and collaborative teaching and learning environment. Mobile tables are used to enable group discussions via different group formations. This allows students to do food investigation individually or in groups, and also allows them to work on their laptops / PLD for their projects.
Food Research Hub & Food Labs
The learning environment is an important aspect of the whole educational experience. Informed by Reggio Emilia's approach to value the learning environment as a ‘third teacher’, our classrooms are fitted with mobile furniture and multiple whiteboards to foster encounters, encourage communication and relationship-building. The flexibility of mobile desks and chairs allows teachers to customise student interaction quickly within a lesson so that teachers and students could engage in thoughtful discussion through active learning and collaboration. Unlike traditional classrooms with standard desks and chairs situated in rows or pairs, the movable and reconfigurable furniture facilitate teachers’ exploration of progressive teaching methods as well as key pedagogical approaches for effective teaching and learning.
Classrooms
For example, in the teaching of Science, teachers can make use of the flexible classroom arrangement to enhance the use of Inquiry-Based Learning to engage students in cooperative and collaborative learning, and promote Future-Ready Habits (FRH) such as Inquisitiveness. During IPW lessons, teachers can re-organise the furniture to facilitate problem-based learning and promote FRH such as Ideation and Prototyping. These examples highlight how the use of mobile desks and chairs support teachers in delivering effective teaching and learning. There is also flexibility for schools to arrange the mobile desks and chairs in rows when needed for examinations or for safe management measures during a pandemic. #schoolasasecondhome #schoolasalivinglab

The YI Green Hub is thoughtfully designed to engage the senses and to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of our YI community. We hope for all visitors to enjoy the experience here and be refreshed, relaxed and emotionally recharged. The Green Hub has a rich biodiversity and is designed as part of our vision to be a School in a Garden. It has three themed areas - Flourishing Garden, Farmers' Delight and Biodiversity Matters!
The plants in the Biodiversity Matters! zone attract various pollinators such as birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles and other small mammals. They sustain our ecosystems and help plants reproduce. Flora found in the Farmers' Delight zone feature items that can be harvested for consumption such as lemongrass, pandan and basil. In the Flourishing Garden, visitors and students will be greeted by flowers and foliage of diverse colours and textures to engage the sense of sight and touch, providing a visual treat for all.
