What produces the native population decline?
On the one hand, the infectious diseases carried by the conquerors, for which the American Indian population had no defenses.
On the other hand, the brutality of the conquest and the conditions of the exploitation regime to which they were subjected during most of the colonial era.
The 95% indigenous population of Latin America declined in 300 years as a consequence of the pathologies transmitted by the conquerors.
The decline of the native population with the arrival of the Spanish was due to the brutality and violence of some conquerors, with whom they attacked our natives when they did not comply with their requests. In addition, due to the pretense of superiority they possessed
What diseases did the Spanish swallow?
Smallpox, measles, bubonic plague, diphtheria, typhus, scarlet fever, chicken pox, yellow fever all were diseases that the indigenous people have never had contact with and, therefore, they have not developed immunity against them.
Some argue that the population decline was created by epidemics brought from Europe, while, on the other hand, it is considered that this decline was caused by overexploitation of labor and mistreatment of indigenous people.
How did the Spanish treat the natives?
The indigenous forms of work were: mita, encomienda and yanaconazgo. For them the mita was the work of the Indians in the mines, encomienda was the work in agriculture and livestock and finally, yanaconazgo was the work of the rebellious Indians.
