At this step, thanks to Manuel Bonilla, the United Fruits Company expands its influence to the point of owning 40% of bananas plantations in South America.

The recently elected President finaly found a way to achieve his program and to give back to the farmers the land concessions from the United Fruits Company.

The United Fruits Company, used its frindships and deep connexions with United States trying to prevent the president's plan. In this way, El Pulpo launched a propaganda campaign against him.

The CIA organised the overthrow of President Jacobo Arbenz in 1954. But his struggle survived him and, at the same moment in Honduras, peasant revolts have begun.

If the octopus put the President of Guatemala under pressure, farmers of Honduras returned the favour to it. So the company has been forced to recognise a new Labour Union and lost a little of its power. Later, a few diseases affected bananas and, as time goes by, the business became less and less important in the South American economy, leaving the people in peace
