Once upon a time there were two lovers, but they were distant from each other; the boy is fighting in Italy, in the city of Pompei, and the girl is in France, in La Rochelle. The boy is sending letters to keep in touch with his love, but it is difficult to deliver them from the war zone because of secrecy so they talk in codes. After a while the young soldier decided to escape and make his loved-one happy in person, so he deserted.
