Class Alpha Airspace

  • IFR Traffic Only!
  • 18,000 ft MSL to 60,000 ft MSL.
  • Must have instrument rating and be on an instrument flight plan.

Fun Fact: Class Echo Airspace's upper limit is not defined so, space is technically controlled airspace.

Class Bravo Airspace

  • Surrounds the nations busiest airports.
  • Provides sequencing and separation services to all aircraft.
  • Resembles an upside down wedding cake that is individually tailored to each airports needs.
  • Extends from the surface to 10,000 ft MSL

  • VFR Weather Minimums:
    • 3 statute miles visiblitiy
    • Remain clear of clouds

  • VFR Wather Minimums
    • 3 SM visibility
    • Cloud Clearance
      • 500 ft below, 1000 ft above, 2000 ft horizontal

Class Charlie Airspace

  • Establised at airports with a control tower, radar approach control, and have high enough IFR or Commercial operations.
  • Core Area: extends 5 NM horizontally form the airport from the surface to 4000 ft AGL
  • Shelf: extends 10 NM horizontally from the airport from 1200 ft AGL to 4000 ft AGL

Class Delta Airspace

  • Established at airports which have an operational control tower.
  • Extends horizontaslly approximetely 5 NM from the airport.
  • Extends from the surfacve to 2500 ft AGL.
  • Configured to meet the needs of the airport.

  • VFR Wather Minimums
    • 3 SM visibility
    • Cloud Clearance
      • 500 ft below, 1000 ft above, 2000 ft horizontal
