Gaia De Vito3^G

Billie Jean King was born on 22 November 1943 in California,Usa. She was an American tennis player in the 1960s and 1970s.

King fought a lot for women in sport. In the 1970s she campaigned for women to have the same opportunities, rights and pay as men. In the same years she started the Women's Tennis Association.

"BATTLE OF THE SEXES" In 1973 Bobby Riggs challenged King to a tennis match. This famous tennis match became known as the 'Battle of the Sexes'. It had the biggest audience ever for a tennis match: 50 million people in the Usa watched it! King quickly and easily beat Riggs.

In her career, Billie Jean King won 39 Grand Slam tournaments, including Wimblendon on six occasions.

In 2006,the National Tennis Centre was re-named the 'Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre'. Since 2020, the Billie Jean King cup,the main women's team tennis competition that began in 1963 as the federation cup,has been named after her.

Daughter of a fireman and housewife,Billie Jean King had a younger brother,Randy Moffit, who became a baseball pro.

I think she is an example to follow so as to eliminate the sterotype that men are stronger than women.
