El artista colombiano más internacional de todos, falleció el pasado 15 de septiembre a los 91 años. Su obra, en la que exploró el volumen, la anatomía y la figura humana hasta sus últimas consecuencias, llegó a países como Estados Unidos, Francia, China y España, lo que habla de un artista que deja un legado que perdurará en la historia del arte nacional. Nacido el 19 de abril de 1932 en Medellín, Botero comenzó a pintar desde que estaba en el colegio y en 1948, a los 16 años, tuvo su primera exposición colectiva con otros artistas antioqueños. Luego, mientras estudiaba en Marinilla y luego en Bogotá, siguió pintando e incluso vendía ilustraciones a la prensa y apoyaba como escenógrafo a compañías de teatro, como la española Lope de Vega, que a comienzos de los años 50 pasó por Antioquia. El tiempo, sin embargo, situaría a Fernando Botero como el artista colombiano más importante del siglo XX en Colombia, tal vez junto a Alejandro Obregón..
