Nantucket is 26 miles off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Nantucket is 3 1/2 miles wide and 14 miles long.
The Steamship Authority, a ferry for passengers and vehicles, runs from Hyannis year round.
Founded in 1946, the Hy-Line is a passenger ferry that runs year round.
Nantucket Harbor is known for its bay scallops.
Maria Mitchell, is the most famous early female astronomer and was born on Nantucket in 1847. She was the first woman to discover a comet.
The winter population on Nantucket is approximately 14,255 and it is 60,000 in the summer.
Palm Beach History
In 1878 The Providencia wrecked off the coast, full of 20,000 coconuts. They were distributed and planted.
In 1893 Henry Flagler, Standard Oil Tycoon, declares Palm Beach a “veritable paradise".
In 1911 Palm Beach was incorporated as a town.
1961-1963: President Kennedy’s “Winter White House is his family’s Palm Beach estate.
In 1879, early pioneers planted about 15,000 pineapple slips to establish a pineapple farm on the island.
The first school (Little Red Schoolhouse) was built in 1886 and is preserved today at Phipps Ocean Park.

Aspen's history can be traced back to 1879, when a band of hardy miners refused to leave the area in the face of a potential Ute Indian uprising. Originally known as Ute City, this tiny mountain community renamed itself Aspen in 1880. The town hit its peak in 1891, when it became the most productive silver mining area in the US.
Scheduled steamer service began in 1818, and until the 1920s, the boats were graceful side-wheelers.
In 1930, the population of this once-bustling town had dwindled to just 700 residents. Despite this decline, the charming historic buildings remained well-preserved, and the town still experienced significant snowfall every winter. The market for bay scallops did not develop until the 1800's. In 1881, it became the major livelihood for the winter residents.
Four suites at Jared Coffin House were named after influential women on Nantucket: the Maria Mitchell Suite, the Anna Gardener Suite, the Lucretia Mott Suite, and the Mary Starbuck Suite.
