RULE OF LAW

What is the Rule of Law and what does it do?

The World Justice Project created the Rule of Law Index to measure how well the rule of law is followed around the world. They worked with experts from over 100 countries and 17 fields to develop this tool. This index focuses on how ordinary people experience the rule of law in their daily lives. It looks at things like whether people can use public services easily and if neighborhood arguments can be settled fairly and without spending too much money in court services.

The four universal principles of the Rule of Law:

Accountability

Just Law

Open Government

Accesible and Impartial Justice

The government as well as private actors are accountable under the law.

The law is clear, publicized, and stable and is applied evenly. It ensures human rights as well as property, contract, and procedural rights.
