The American Revolution

At the end of the 18th century Britain lost the American colonies and went to war with the French army first and with the Napoleonic armies next.Victory over Napoleon gave Britain enormous power over land and sea. The Industrial Revolution gave it an immense advantage on the markets of the world, but costs were equally great.

1815: Hunderd Days' Campaign: Napoleon returned to power Battle of Waterloo: he was defeated by the allied armies, and he was exile dat the island of Saint Helena Congress of Vienna: the victorious nations re-established the old order in Europe. Britain gained territories in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South Africa and in the Indian Ocean.
