The Personal Computer
An Italian Invention
Introduction
Who invented it?
History
A personal computer is any computer that is suitable for personal use and customization by the user in daily use. The term 'personal computer' was born in the 1980s when the first computers were put on the market for the general public.
The idea of the first PC took shape in 1962 in the mind of engineer Pier Giorgio Perotto and his team and before becoming known as Programma 101 it was renamed "Olivetti Perottina", in homage to its creator.
The beginning of the history of distributed computing, with programmable desktop machines that can be defined as personal computers, can be dated back to the early 1960s. Regardless of the various opinions on its origins, the Olivetti Programma 101, designed by the engineer Pier Giorgio Perotto in years 1962-1964, was considered revolutionary. Without an operating system or graphic interface, it could however already store programs on a magnetic card.
