Dear reader
Before the name Firenze, the city was called Florentia and then Fiorenza, a name that seems to be associated with the Latin word for "flower' (Flor), which we can still see in the English name of the city (Flo-rence; Flo-wer).
Dear reader
This statue of a bronze piglet by Pietro Tacca is a copy of the marble statue that was donated to Cosimo I Medici. Today, you can slip a coin in the piglet's mouth and hope it will fall into the grid underneath, then touch its nose. it will bring you good luck!
