Background

We are three portuguese students from Escola Secundária Dr. José Afonso (Jose Afonso Secondary School) located in Seixal, Lisbon Metropolitan Area, Portugal. We were selected to participate in this experience abroad by our school with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. In this presentation, we will discuss our full experience in a foreign country, education, interesting facts and overall opinion. Let's jump in!

The city

Oulu is a vibrant city located in the northern part of Finland, known for its innovative spirit, thriving technology sector, and strong cultural scene. Situated at the mouth of the Oulujoki River on the Gulf of Bothnia, Oulu is the largest city in Northern Finland and the sixth largest in the country. Oulu has a population of approximately of 211,848 inhabitants (2022). Oulu is the European Capital of 2026.

Overall

As our experience ended, we can proudly say we enjoyed every single moment we spent in Finland. The landscapes of the country, the snowy climate, the nature, the unique lifestyle, the places, and the people who ensured we were having a good time during our stay - overall, Finnish culture deserves our respect and more recognition for what the promising future holds for Finland. A country with one of the highest HDIs and best education system in the world, achieves remarkable success in a country with only 5 million people is truly inspiring.
