AI, or Artificial Intelligence, refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions), and self-correction. AI can be categorized into two main types: Narrow AI and General AI.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
“The current generation does not know a world without the internet. … … … … The world is increasingly aware of our need to stop teaching Wi-fi students with landline strategies.”
-The Complete Ed Tech Coach: an organic approach to supporting digital learning by Adam Juarez and Katherine Goyette
What are your thoughts?
“Many educators fear that generative AI can provide misinformation or can become a method for cheating on assignments. As AI becomes more commonplace in all aspects of life, it is imperative that educators adapt to this new reality and rethink current attitudes about plagiarism and cheating. Rather, a Teacher should educate students about the responsible use of generative AI, promoting the values of honesty, critical thinking, and originality in academic endeavors.” -From DPI AI Guidebook p. 7

Applying
Example
Template
After studying a topic, ask students to predict what facts Chat GPT will generate on the topic and which facts will be left out. Fill in the predictions into a template and compare the actual outcome.
Be the Bot
Evaluating
Example
Template
Ask AI to regenerate a response to a prompt 5 different times. Paste each response into a template. With a partner, take the best parts of each draft to write the very best final essay. Ask students to explain why they chose the pieces they chose.
Combining Writing Drafts
Creating
Propose a solution to a passion project or a real world project/problem. Ask Chat GPT to find the flaws and refine the passion project plan based on projected flaws.
Passion Project Assistant
Use a topic from a rubric you have to generate the essay from.
Evaluating
Have Chat GPT generate an essay on a set of criteria and let the student use your rubric to analyze and grade the essay. Discuss the reasons for the earned grade.
AI and a Rubric
Use a topic you are currently teaching generate the outlines from.
Evaluating
Ask ChatGPT to generate a series of outlines to a given question about important concepts from the text. Students could then read, analyze, and evaluate which outline most closely reflects their interpretation of the text as well as the reality of their own lives.
