Rerum Novarum and its support for the Employer and Employee relationship
Rerum Novarum was published in 1891 by Pope Leo XIII. it was written in the middle of the 2nd Industrial Revolution. It was written in response to the inhumane treatment of workers at the hands of factory owners. it was also written to condemn both capitalism and socialism. It was supposed to provide supportt to the workers to protect them.
Rerum Novarum
Pope Leo XIII condemned socialsimm for its injustices against it workers. He saw socialist countries and leaders holding property in common for every one and recognized this was wrong. He said that every man has the right to private property and that was not being honored in socialist countries.
Capitalism
Socialism
Pope Leo XIII also condemned Capitalism. he saw the abuse of workers in the capitalist countries. He saw the owners were very greedy and were not willing to protect their workes because it would cost money. He said that the Employers must pay fairly and improve working conditions to protect the workers.
condemnations
Pope Leo XIII
“so is it just and right that the results of labor should belong to those who have bestowed their labor.”
Employer Employee relationsip
The employee owes a few things to their employer in this relationship. The employees should do the agreed upon work to completion, never destroy company property, not purposefully make the employer angry, not join up in riots and revolts, and not join societies of men who have evil intentions
Employer to Employee
Employee to Employer
The employer also has duties to the employee. Those duties arethe workers don't belong to the company, working for gain is good and just, the workers are not tools for gain, must be allowed time to partake in religion, not be tempted to neglect his home and family, or to waste his earnings. They are also required to give a fair wage for the work done.

Relevance
Rerum Novarum and the ideas presented are still just as relevant today as they were when is was published. In the world today there are still places that are socialist and deny workers the ability to have private property which every person deserves. These points are also still relevant because there are places where people work in sweatshops and are not afforded the pay or breaks they deserve. The people in these shops are still treated similarly to workers in the Second Industrial revolution. The point where a worker must respect their employers is still relevant as well. There was a court case where workers in a union organized a violent strike which destroyed private property. This was deemed unprotected under union laws. This supports the idea that workers are not permitted to destroy copany property.
Rerum Novarum was published in 1891. In 1908 a cotton factory gave a day off. In 1926 Henry Ford standardized the 5-day work week in his factories. In 1940 it became an official law in the United States. There are also laws protecting the employer which hold the employees accountable for damages caused in strikes.
Support & Protection for employees & Employers
Over time the protection of the worker became more and more common and eventually law.
