INDEX
Life is Beautiful is a 1997 film directed and starring Roberto Benigni. The story follows the life of Guido, a Jewish man who is deported with his son to a concentration camp during World War II. Despite facing the cruelty of the situation, Guido tries to protect his son from the harsh reality by convincing him that it's all a game and winning a series of challenges will earn them a real tank. Here, it's shown how racism was practiced by those who were intellectually impoverished. The intellectual poverty of those who practice racism is evident in their lack of understanding and appreciation for human diversity, in their lack of empathy, and in their reliance on stereotypes and prejudices to judge others. Those who practice racism often demonstrate a lack of knowledge and open-mindedness, clinging to limited and harmful beliefs and ideologies. Instead of appreciating the richness of differences among people, those who practice racism demonstrate a poverty of spirit and thought that leads them to discriminate and inflict suffering on others based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, or culture.

This lack of understanding of broader realities can be interpreted as a form of intellectual poverty, where a lack of knowledge and awareness hinders the full comprehension of human suffering and injustices in the world
"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John Boyne tells the story of two children: one is the son of a Nazi commander, while the other is a Jewish prisoner in a concentration camp. The book highlights the lack of awareness of the German child regarding the atrocities of the Holocaust, as he grows up isolated from the surrounding reality and fails to grasp the severity of the situations around him.

"American Beauty" is a 1999 film directed by Sam Mendes. The plot revolves around the life of Lester Burnham, a middle-aged man who appears to lead a perfect life in an American suburban home but is actually trapped in an empty and unfulfilling existence. Lester is wealthy in terms of money and material comforts, but he is emotionally and spiritually impoverished. The protagonist is "rich in money but poor in life" because his life lacks meaning, authenticity, and genuine emotional connections. Despite his privileged social position and professional success, Lester feels trapped in a loveless marriage and a job he hates. His pursuit of happiness leads him to begin a relationship with a teenage girl and to embark on a series of radical actions that challenge social norms and question the conventions of his life By the end of the film, Lester comes to a sort of personal enlightenment, realizing that true beauty and meaning in life lie in the small everyday joys and authentic relationships rather than in social conventions or material success. His personal growth is marked by a tragic epilogue, but his quest for meaning and authenticity offers a powerful reflection on the existential emptiness that can pervade even seemingly affluent lives.

The loneliness, isolation, and sense of emotional emptiness described in the song can be seen as outcomes of a lack of awareness and emotional and spiritual growth, which in turn can be viewed as a form of intellectual poverty in human relationships and in understanding life itself.
The song "Hurt" by Johnny Cash explores deep existential themes, including human fragility, regret, and the search for meaning in life. The song reflects on the protagonist's emotional struggles and inner turmoil. These feelings can be interpreted as a form of intellectual impoverishment stemming from a lack of deep understanding and emotional connection with oneself and others.

In Édouard Manet's painting "The Old Musician," the elderly violinist is depicted in a neglected and marginalized state, symbolizing the marginalized and neglected condition of artistic and intellectual figures of the time. This portrayal suggests an implicit criticism of the lack of support and opportunities for artists in the 19th century, contributing to perpetuating
