Understaning Money and Decimal Notation

• £1 = 100p
• Decimal notation is used to show parts of a pound and how pence and pounds work together
• For example: £2.50 is read as "two pounds and fifty pence

Converting Pence to Pounds and Pounds to Pence

• When converting pence to pounds, divide by 100 by moving the decimal point at the end two spaces to the left
• E.g. 250 pence is equal to £2.50
• When converting pounds to pence, multiply by 100 by moving the decimal point two spaces to the right
• E.g. £8.50 is equal to 850 pence

Adding and Subtracting Money

When adding or subtracting money with decimal points, line up the decimal points.
