VOICEOVER: Hello founders! Here is a quick infographic on some best practices for conducting your pilot. I hope y'all are feeling so proud for how far you've come and how you are one step closer to bringing your venture to life! These are just some quick things that we learned with our Khao'ns Pilot which was a 6 week food justice curriculum workshop with students. Some of these things we did from the beginning and some were things we wished we did! Before the day or event of your first pilot, get all of your materials organized and printed. This is an opportunity to get things like consent forms for photo and video printed, your name tags, and even business cards! Another thing is to ask for help, got a best friend, cousin, sibling, partner? Let them help you because I know they want to see you succeed! And sometimes...we just can't do everything by ourselves. Lastly, drink water and eat! My partner can probably tell you how many times they've had to deal with me feeling so hectic and stresses which was just exascberated because I didn't eat. Get your water bottle, snacks, and that protein in! During your events always start with introducing yourself and your venture. Do it through your 30 second pitch, it's a great way to practice, ensure it is effective, and get comfy with it so you can eventually say it anywhere to anyone with no hesitation. Have participants sign in upon entering with an email adress and honestly, having a digital way of doing this is super easy like a googleform or spreadsheet. This way if you want to send an update or newsletter, you've already got their contact! As your event is going, center your joy. Don't let the stress of things running perfectly get you down becauuse I'm going to tell you, no matter how long you plan for and all of the details you anticipate - something will go as unplanned because we're human, when that happens take a breath and remind yourself why you're doing this work. Find the joy in the smiles around you and in the success of you actually being in your pilot! Lastly, create opportunities for participants to share feedback and get it recorded. It can be through informal chats or even a worksheet they might be working on that you can take a picture of. You'll get to use these artifacts to build your portfolio for future funding, investment, and pitches. Now the after, this is just as important to keep the momentum going! Be sure to follow up with participants thanking them for coming, reminding them of any future events, and incorporate a call to action. Is it to send the newsletter to 3 friends, to follow you on social media, to donate or invest? No matter what it is, be sure to include one! You might have even identified a few participants that you want to get to hear more from through an empathy interview, be sure to follow up to do that as well. Last thing is to reflect, take a moment with yourself to celebrate what you've accomplished and reflect on what you might want to do differently in the future.
