I am currently at City and Islington college (CANDI) where I study a UAL Level 3 performing and production arts diploma. So far, from this course, I have doubled in knowledge, but I still have a lot to learn about the industry. I would like to learn more in musical theatre, more singing lessons and how to cope with the lifestyle of being an actor. Since I started, I have improved greatly. Before college I did not have much experience in acting because I never had anywhere to peruse it (more dance), however I have developed not just as an actor but also as a person. My skills in ensemble work have improved, I am more open to working people I have not worked with before which has helped build my confidence up which I struggled with a lot in secondary. At my dance school we do annual shows and I have never felt stage-fright, but it felt different to act on stage at college, because you are putting yourself out there while thinking about a whole character you must maintain. I remember the first time I went to see a west-end show, I saw mamma-Mia, that was the moment I fell in-love of the thought of being a performer. Since I was young, I was always entertaining my family putting on small shows for them in the living room and singing songs, but over the years I became a bit more self-conscious, especially in year 8 onwards. Towards the end of secondary I decided I was going to make my own choice and focus on my passion for performing. I started going to dance 4 times a week, at home I found my own scripts and practised them in my free-time, and it was worth the time. Whenever I go to see a theatre show or if I am performing myself, I get motivation and a rush of feeling like this is what I am meant to do. Also, I come from a highly creative family, my uncles and grandad are musicians/actors, my mum is a DJ and writer/illustrator, so I have grown up being influenced by their creativity.

PERSONAL STATMENT
In the past 2 years I have had various work-experience. Last year, I started work experience as an assistant teacher for the younger classes (reception-year 3) at my dance school, I am still doing this now as a job. This has helped me with working with younger children which I had not done before, and it has taught me to take control when needed and to be firm. I love the feeling of seeing how happy a student is when they finally get something right, it makes you feel successful in your skills. Also, recently at college I have volunteered at ‘Angel Shed’-Childrens Theatre Group, which is an inclusive drama group. I have gained a lot of new information about kids with disabilities. Over the 2023 summer holidays, I helped back-stage at one of Urdang’s show cases which was really fascinating to see how the university worked. While watching all the students on stage, I was holding myself back because all I wanted to do was get on the stage. At my dance school, throughout the 13 years I have been going there, we have done around 10 performances. For instance, we have done Annie, Little mermaid, Wizard of Oz and many more. I have been voted dance captain at my school, we do not go to competitions, but I just lead the counts and go through the choreography with the group if our teacher is busy. In secondary, I was head girl of my form because my class believed that I was somebody who can listen to everyone and take in their ideas/questions. Attending a drama school/university would make my choice of a performing career really feel real and not just something I do on the side. I am very eager to learn new skills and to see if I have what it takes to be in this industry.
