What is a Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases released, specifically carbon dioxide, that is emitted directly or indirectly by human activities.

In my initial result, you can see that my carbon footprint was high this was primaryily because of the travel me and my family did. Excluding the flights a significant portion of my carbon footprint came from buying random items off SHIEN.

implementing these changes reduced my carbon footprint. While it still remains slightly elevated compared to the global average, it's still lower than that of the United States.

I made a few adjustments by excluding flights, cutting down on SHEIN purchases, and mentioning my composting efforts.

SHEIN, like many fast fashion brands, has a large impact on the environment. The production of fast fashion items often involves high water consumption, chemical pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and contributes to textile waste and landfill accumulation. If I stopped buying alot from SHIEN it wouldn't stop this but it would atleast reduce it. Composting can have several positive environmental impacts. It helps reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfills, which in turn decreases methane emissions (a potent greenhouse gas) produced during decomposition. Composting also enriches soil quality, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, promotes biodiversity, and aids in carbon sequestration, ultimately contributing to healthier ecosystems and a more sustainable environment.

I made changes by reducing my purchases from SHEIN and trying out composting to lower my carbon footprint as I said in the previous slide. However, personally, it would be challenging to completely stop shopping on SHEIN due to its affordability and convenience, especially since many local shops are often closed in our area, making it a go-to for a wide range of products. Well I hear you asking how would these changes impact the enviroment?

In 50 years, who knows? Maybe we'll have floating cities powered by renewable energy, space tourism as a common vacation option, or advanced technologies that help us reverse the effects of climate change. However with the way we are going this could be near impossible ...

On the flip side, if urgent action is not taken to address climate change, we may witness more frequent and severe natural disasters, widespread environmental degradation, food and water shortages, displacement of populations, and increased social and economic instability, creating a bleak future for many. With the war in Russia also going on who knows in 50 years we may not even be alive.

In 50 years looking in a positive light, advancements in renewable energy technology and sustainable practices may lead to a significant decrease in carbon emissions, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Countries worldwide could be more united in their efforts to combat environmental issues, leading to a healthier planet for future generations.
