A desinformação é uma forma de enganar as pessoas fazendo burlas e partilhando "fake news" (noticias falsas).O principal probelema da desinformação é enganar as pessoas despotegendo as pessoas das burlas

O termo é usado para denominar informações falsas veiculadas, principalmente, nas redes sociais. Há casos de sensacionalismo para atrair acessos a sites e, assim, ganhar dinheiro com publicidade. As fake news também são usadas para reforçar um pensamento, por meio de mentiras e da disseminação de intolerâncias, destruindo pessoas, empresas ou afetando instituições democráticas, o que acontece, sobretudo, em períodos eleitorais.
