symbolism ALL TOO WELL - SHORT FILM

• The characters are lit from behind
• The girl has warm bright lighting behind her
• The man is framed by a cold ice blue
• symbolising how different they both are.
• also symbolises how they each feel about the relationship, warm orange representing happiness, cold blue representing his careless feelings.

• At the start we see the girl where the scarf, at the end we see the man wearing it whilst looking at her through the bookstore window.
• This is symbolic of their relationship, and how he is still clinging too it all these years later.

• The lyrics match the scenes that are playing out
• gives context and backstory to what the character is dealing with.
• we see the contrast of the two scenes, the scene with the man is dull colours and empty space.
• wheras the birthday party scene is bright and warm with all of her friends close around her.
• as the music stops we see the emotion on the characters face.

• Connell comes from a working class background and Marianne has a wealthy family.
• They avoid conversations about money.
• but we can see this putting a strain on their relationship throughout the series as Connell notices the way she takes her privilege for granted

• Marianne faces different types of abuse throughout the series
• Manipulative abuse from her boyfriend & Physical and emotional abuse by her brother.

Toxic Love

• Connell and Marianne depend on each other
• Marianne uses Connell to prove and show that she is worthy of love.
• Connell uses Marianne for companionship and to feel understood.

Enigma Codes - NORMAL PEOPLE

The biggest enigma code in normal people is: Will Marianne & Connell end up together?

• throughout the show we see them break up and get back together multiple times.
• we see them get with other people whilst they are still clearly longing for each other.
