"The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are our common vision for humanity and a social contract between world leaders and people. They are a list of things to do on behalf of people and the planet and a blueprint for success."

Increase inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacities for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries.

Provide access to safe, accessible, sustainable and affordable transportation systems for all. Improve road safety by expanding the public transport network, with special attention to the needs of vulnerable people, particularly women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly.

Ensure access for all to safe, adequate and affordable housing, basic services and improve conditions in the slums.

Reducing the negative environmental impact per capita in cities, paying special attention to air quality, municipal waste management and others.

Significantly reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected by disasters, and substantially reduce the direct economic losses caused thereby in the global gross domestic product, including water-related disasters, focusing above all on protecting the poor and people in vulnerable situations.

Santarém City Council (CMS) has a Multidisciplinary Sustainability Action Team, which has been raising awareness among the population and implementing some measures to reduce waste in the municipality. These measures can be consulted on the CMS website.
