Transcript
Rosalind Elsie Franklin was born on July 25, 1920 in London, United Kingdom.
ROSALIND FRANKLIN
In 1941 she graduated in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, where she obtained a doctorate and a professorship in Physical Chemistry.
Her research on coal was recognized throughout his life. In addition, she carried out important studies on viruses, which led to discoveries never seen before. The viruses she studied include the polio virus and the tobacco mosaic virus.
In 1947 she moved to Paris as a researcher and became an accomplished X-ray crystallographer. She later joined King's College London in 1951 as a research associate, and using that knowledge of photos that help you describe the double helix structure of DNA.
Unfortunately, she was unable to continue with these studies, because she died of ovarian cancer on April 16, 1958, when she was only 37 years old. But his disciples and colleagues were able to continue them and for this they achieved the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1962 for establishing the helical chain of DNA, as it is currently known, and which Rosalind discovered.
These same scientists proposed that the prize also be awarded to Rosalind, considering her as their teacher, but when she died years before they did not grant it to her.
Even so, over the years, different recognitions have been made for his work in many countries, especially in the United States, where the Illinois University of Medicine and Sciences bears his name.
