SEGREGATION IN THE SOUTHERN STATES OF AMERICA In 1886, the Supreme Court ruled that facilities such as schools, buses and parks for black and white people had to be "separate, but equal", but in reality it wasn't.There were also secret societies that wanted to terrorize blacks and prevent them from obtaining political power, but in reality they did.The Civil Rights act of 1964 made segregation was made illegal and they gained the right to vote in 1965 (Voting Rights Act ).

CIVIL RIGHTS ACT In 1964 America passed the Civil Rights Act; This changed the lives of African-Americans forever. Martin won the Noble Peace Prize.

BIOGRAPHY Martin Luther King, was born on 15th January 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia and he was assassinated on 4th April 1968 on the balcony of his hotel, because some people did't like his ideas.He was an American activist, politician and Protestant pastor, leader of the African American civil rights movement.Martin had a younger brother and an older sister, in 1953 he married Coretta Scott and they had 4 children.

MONTGOMERY BUS SISTEM In 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama,Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white person on the bus. The police came and arrested her.Martin then organised a boycott of the Montgomery Bus System.No black person is it a bus in Montgomery for 382 days. In the end, the Supreme Court decided to stop segregation on public transport. After this victory he was famous.

MARCH ON WASHINGTON D.C. In August 1963, Martin led a march for Civil Rights on Washington D.C.On that day he gave his most famous speech: “I have a dream" from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and there were more than 200,000 people.

MARTIN LUTER KING DAY The third Monday in January the Americans remember Martin Luter King work.The schools close for the day, the people remember what Martin believed in and try to help someone in this day.

BIOGRAPHY Rosa Parks was born 4th February 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama and she died 24th October 2005 at Detroit.She was, and is a symbol of the civil rights movement, she became famous for refusing in 1955 to give her seat on a bus to a white man.

ARREST The 1st December on 1955, Rosa was riding a bus home from work. She was sitting in the back of the bus in the section reserved for Black people.The bus became too crowded, so the bus driver told Rosa to move to seat a white person.She refused and the police were called to arrest her.They say that not giving up her seat was against the law.

BOYCOTT OF BUS SYSTEM In 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama,Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white person on the bus. The police came and arrested her.After her arrest, many African American leaders organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott to protest, that is, no one would take the buses.The refusal of Black people to ride the buses cost the bus system a lot of money.
