Storia

Il carnevale è stato una forma di festeggiamento di massa per secoli, instaurato dai greci in onore del dio del vino. I romani seguirono l’esempio con le festività in onore di Bacco e le Saturnalia, nel corso delle quali gli uomini trascorrevano una giornata di baldoria ubriacandosi, seguendo una tradizione in cui i maestri e i soldati si scambiavano gli abiti. La chiesa cattolica più tardi ne fece una festività che porta al Mercoledì delle Ceneri, il primo giorno di Quaresima nel calendario cristiano. Si pensa che il Carnevale di Rio sia stato influenzato da Entrudo, un festival portoghese. Il primo ballo durante il Carnevale di Rio si tenne nel 1840, con i partecipanti che ballavano la polka e il valzer, mentre il samba fu introdotto nel 1917.

Parate

Nel periodo di carnevale tutti gli occhi sono puntati sulle Parate di Samba al sambodromo. Ogni anno la parata inizia con la sfilata dei bambini, seguita dalle esibizioni del Gruppo di Accesso o d'Oro e del Gruppo Speciale. Ogni scuola di samba si esibisce in uno spettacolo unico, con diversi temi samba e coreografie perfette.

BALLI DI GRUPPO

La festa non si ferma mai durante il Carnevale di Rio. I festeggiamenti continuano per quattro notti e ogni notte offre un'esperienza differente mentre diversi balli di carnevale si svolgono in tutta la città. I ricchi si contendono un posto di prima categoria al prestigioso e affascinante Ballo Magico al Copacabana Palace, uno dei balli più esclusivi che si tiene durante il carnevale. Lo Scala, un locale notturno nel centro di Rio, organizza numerosi balli all’apice dei quali c’è il Ballo Gay in costume, l'evento più popolare tra i festeggiamenti fuori dal sambodromo.

Carri

e sfilate di samba rappresentano il culmine del carnevale. Ballerini e musicisti, a bordo di incredibili carri allegorici, tengono in ostaggio Rio per due notti, coinvolgendo i turisti in vorticose danze ad alto tasso erotico. Per vedere il Samba Show di Rio dovete recarvi al Sambódromo, una sorta di enorme pista/stadio in cui avvengono le tradizionali parate delle Scuole di Samba, queste si sfidano fino alla proclamazione di un vincitore.
