7038MHR Module Weekly Guide

WEEK 1 - Consolidating LearningStart early working on your CW You can start with:

  • Your initial attempt at identifying the stakeholders, understanding the organisational context, understanding the project context and quality and change control issues.
  • Understanding the MLOs by researching and reading around the keywords and what they mean.
  • Looking at the content of week 1 and making the linkages (what documents, managerial techniques, what processes can be changed/improved) to address the CW requirement of bringing the project back on track

WEEK 2 - Consolidating LearningStart early working on your CWYou now have two weeks’ worth of self guided study material (2hours) and the weekly module live lecture content and learning from activities in the Academic Support hour and focusing on CW in the Assessment and Feedback session. There is a lot you can do on your CW in addition to what I pointed you could start with last week. Your CW needs to be authentic to effectively demonstrate your critical and analytical skills. To be authentic as if you were really the new project manager for the ‘Media Building’, you need to do some background research.

  • What lessons can you learn from the real world?
  • What insights can you gather from the real world?
I discuss some leading questions and answering these question robustly will help you complete your CW systematically and comprehensively.

1. How do you map your project outputs and outcome on Maslow’s hierarchy? -How can this inform your communications plan as it informs understanding the perspective of the end user? Or stakeholders? --How motivated they are? What motivates them? 2. Explore how the organisational perspective of quality impacts project quality 3. Business quality has implications for stakeholders eg supplier? Contractors? - Your supplier’s quality is your quality - Your contractor’s quality is your quality 4. What is the impact of your product quality to your customers? 5. What about your organisational quality and the internal customer and efficiency and effectiveness? 6. Organisational determinants/drivers of product quality need consideration… to what extent do these affect product or service? 7. Consequently, to what extent do the organisational dimensions of quality management impact the organisational determinants/driver? 8. Specifically, how do they also impact the choices, approaches to quality management using the components QP, QC, QA and QI? - What role does Deming cycle play?

Week 3 - Consolidating Learning

I have provided additional guidance in the form of questions below:

Reflecting on the class activities in the Academic Support hour in week 3 and 4 (looking at Spotify, Coca Cola, Amazon and Starbucks) 💡What do you understand about organisational quality management and approaches to quality management 💡What is your understanding of QP, QC, QA and QI i.e., the components of quality management 💡What is your understanding of the impact on organisational competitiveness and ultimately business value (profitability) 💡What is your understanding of customer value and therefore customer quality requirements? 💡What is your understanding of supplier and contractor quality input to the organisation’s quality management processes?

Focusing on the Class Rolling ‘adopt a product or service’ Project. Remember to focus only on Quality and Change Control 💡What is your product or service? 💡What type of organisation would produce it? 💡What assumptions do you make about your organisation’s approach to quality management 💡Can you talk about customer quality requirement without understanding more about your product and it’s existing market …Remember..your product engineers the customer…

Week 4 - Consolidating Learning

Week 6 - Consolidating Learning

Reflecting on the class activities in the Academic Support hour in week 6, what is your understanding of the challenges to quality and scope and the different levels of analysis (project manager, project, organisational and external environments)? Reflecting on the approach that was used in class and during the class activities, how can you use these approaches (research around key words, themes; synthesizing meaning and capturing these for inclusion in your CW i.e., citing these whilst making a note of your sources for referencing? Reflecting on the Course Hour ASU facilitated workshop on Plagiarism, how can you ensure that you cite extant research properly and avoid the common mistakes? Focusing on the Class Rolling ‘adopt a product or service’ Project. Remember to focus only on Quality and Change Control Reflecting on the question from earlier weeks ‘What problems did you focus on?’ how can you apply your new knowledge and insight to identify what level of analysis of challenges of quality and change control are impacted? Focusing on the Guest lecture (for those who were there) How does system thinking help you reconceptualise the CW case study about the ‘Media building’? This will be interesting to explore and discuss in class in the coming weeks💡.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH REQUIRED TO BE AUTHENTIC

  • You now have a more complete list of stakeholders that include the customer/end user, so what does this mean for your CW? What assumptions do you make?
  • How much do you know about the media industry, for example traditional media organisations and the emergent media organisations (Netflix and Amazon etc). How will this inform your assumptions?
  • What do you know about how media organisations are set up? Where are the offices, editing suites, recording studios etc situated? Do you have TV and radio frequencies broadcasted from the same facility for example? How will this inform your assumptions?
  • What specialist equipment or support services are required and what will this mean for your CW and therefore inform your assumptions
