Washington, the capital of the United States, is a dense city located on the banks of the Potomac, on the border of the states of Maryland and Virginia. It is characterized by its imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings, including those which house the 3 branches of the federal government: the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court.

The LINCOLN MEMORIAL

The Lincoln Memorial is a monument built in honor of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, and inaugurated in 1922, in West Potomac Park, an extension of the National Mall in Washington . A large white marble building in the shape of a Greek Doric temple, it houses a monumental statue of seated Abraham Lincoln and the inscriptions of two of his most famous speeches. The monument is supported by 36 exterior white marble columns in reference to the 36 American states at the time of Abraham Lincoln's death. The Lincoln Memorial was the place from which several speeches were delivered, including the famous I have a dream by Martin Luther King, on August 28, 1963, during the march on Washington for jobs and freedom.

The Capitole

The United States Capitol is the building that serves as the seat of Congress, the legislative branch of the United States. It is located in the federal capital, Washington, D.C. Construction in the neoclassical1 style began in 1793 and was completed in 1812. It consists of a dome and two wings. The north wing is the seat of the Senate and the south wing is that of the House of Representatives.

The Washington Monument is an obelisk-shaped tower more than 169 meters high, dedicated on February 21, 1885 in honor of George Washington, the first president of the United States, and is located in Washington, D.C. The works of Construction lasted almost forty years, from 1848 to 1885.
