As vital care professionals physicians are some of the most trained of our providers with the education and ability to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe an intervention or treatment for a patient. Yet there is a huge issue due to the lack of diversity (in areas such as gender and race among physicians that hinders individuals from getting the care and support they need in an accessible, respectful, and comfortable manner.

• Specialized workers in obstetrics and gynecology, providing care in hospitals.
• Hospitals and physicians adopting new roles to improve patient safety, outcomes, and financial performance.

In 2019, there were 938,980 active physicians. Within these 938,980 physicians, the gender disparity is staggering with there being almost 2x as many Male physicians as Female Physicians.

There is also an issue of Racial diversity in the Medical Field as well as shown in the chart to the left containing data about the racial disparity among medical students in the U.S. in 2019.

• Diversifying the physician workforce is identified as a strategic priority.
• Emphasis on increasing representation of underrepresented minorities in medicine.

These efforts recognize the importance of a diverse physician workforce in meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the population.
