Well, first we have to identify the verb. In this sentence, the verb is changed, it's what he did. So the adverb tells us HOW he changed. So in this example it would be sleepily.

So, in the sentence "Marco sleepily changed into his purple pajamas" what would be the adjective?

So last week we talked about verbs, the action words in our sentence. So adverbs tell us HOW verbs happened. They tell us HOW, WHEN, AND WHERE.

Yeah, I'm ready, but what's an adverb?

Hey there, kiddo! Ready to learn about adverbs?

quickly? The dog ran quickly. Quickly is the adverb showing HOW the verb, ran, happened.

Well if we want to add an adverb there, we could add an "ly" word. How did the dog run?

I think I'm starting to get it. Can you give me more examples?

Sure! So you notice the word sleepily has the "ly" attached to it? ALOT of adverbs end in LY.

You got it! You're a quick learner.

So, the dog ran. How would we add an ad verb to this sentence?

Thanks for teaching me about common adverbs! Do you have any last tips?

Sure! So these adverbs dont always end in "ly". However, if you have a verb in a sentence, which you always will, look for the words that tell us when, how, or where about the verb.

What did you learn today?

1. The excited dog wagged its tail rapidly when it saw its owner returning home.2. Sarah completed her homework diligently before dinner, ensuring she had free time to play outside.3. Jack cleaned his room thoroughly to impress his parents and earn extra screen time.4. The superhero swiftly flew through the sky, rescuing people in distress with incredible speed.5. After the rain stopped, the children joyfully played in the puddles, laughing and splashing each other.

Can you use adverbs in sentences?

Try filling in the blanks with adverbs.

Practice 2

Remember, Adverbs are like the superheroes of sentences. They tell us more about how, when, or why something happens. Look for words that answer questions like 'how does it happen?' or 'when does it happen?' or 'why does it happen?' If you find those words in a sentence, you've probably spotted an adverb.
