The UK in a Changing Europe economics conference, brought together the latest thinking from UK economic and social science research on the key economic challenges for the UK and how they might be addressed. The conference launched the latest report, in which 15 leading UK economists set out their analysis and potential solutions. Drawing from academia, government, business and journalism, panels consider whether the current fiscal framework is fit for purpose, how public services could be improved, how economic success can be made of net zero, as well as reexamining the tax and welfare system, and UK trade strategy.

On 31st January 2024,Students were given the opportunity to attend the annual UK in a Changing Europe economics conference. The conference discussed the use of research to inform policy and decision-making that will impact change in the UK.The conference took place in London, Westminster at One Great George Street.

The Telford Theatre, on the first floor of this Westminster venue, is a fabulous purpose-built conference and lecture Space. The Telford Theatre at One Great George Street Space is rich in history and beautiful in decorThe stage has a speaker’s lectern to one side and a top table for up to seven people. The lectern and top table each have in-built monitors and microphones.There is a domed roof containing glass believed to have been salvaged from the Institution’s former building (pre-1900). This dome, as well as being a striking feature, also creates a feeling of Space and light in the room.Situated next to the Great Hall, the Telford Theatre is ideal for large conferences, presentations, lectures seminars, product launches, press conferences, AGMs and screenings. The room is also near the Council, Rennie and Palmer rooms which are ideal spaces for break-out or catering rooms.The lecture theatre is named after Thomas Telford who many consider to be the father of engineering and was the Institution of Civil Engineers’s first president.
